SGM of AIESEC Auckland

>> Friday, May 11, 2007

I just received a text from David:" Yoyo yifan! Congratulations! You have been ratified!!"

I am running the Executive Board (EB) of AIESEC Auckland Exchange Director position because I want to create a very busy life when I back to NZ for the only one paper for my Bachelor.

After two years staying in NZ, I found it very demotivated and boring. I need some positive and motivated environment. I also want to build up my professional skill before I graduate. I am sure AIESEC has the best platform for me to do this.

It was such a pity I could not able to join the SGM (election). So I was prepare my speech for last two night, and try to send it yesterday until 1a.m. since the fail is too big for sending by email.

So I am very happy to hear that I have been ratified. I like to see result :p

Although everything has not be finalized, I am satisfied with this stage.

I am going to book my flight to New Zealand.

Looking forward to a great year!!!

8th India trip: Hampi

" The fascinating ruins of Vijayangar, near the village of Hampi, are set in strange and sublime boulder-strewn landscape that resonates with a magical air. It is the capital of one of the largest Hindu empires in Indian history...."

Before I visit this place, I had heard a lot from people how beautiful of this place. Especially "Mango tree". Once I though there are a lot of mango tree in Hampi, then I found out actually is a restaurant called "Mango Tree" because it is under a huge mango tree I had ever seen.

This trip I went with three other AIESEC interns, which is my best buddies in India as well - Kirsti, Carmen and Gary. We went to Hampi by train - SECOND CLASS SLEEPER. It took us 10 hours to Hampi.

India travel tip: Going trip by train is the most comfortable and cheapest way to travel in India. However, you have to book two weeks in advance because Indian is a lot of people!!! :p

Saturday morning we arrived and found a budget hotel - Archana guest house - is a good value hotel, cheap (INR100 p.p/USD2.5), clean and big. I was just a little bit unlucky because the bed bugs like me so much. Hence, I had to wake up and take shower at 1am to get out from the iciness.

The best way to travel in Hampi is bike or bicycle. We decide to use bicycle because less polluted - save our world :)

There are a lot of temple in Hampi. Seriously I really could not remember all of them. We went to queen bath, water tank, Lotus Mahal, Elephant Stables, Hampi Bazaar... All of them is amazing building! It remind me when I was secondary school, we studied a lot about the four oldest human history - one of them is India. I really appreciate that I could be there.

One of the highlight in Hampi ruins is VITTALA TEMPLE - it is one of the world heritage.

"Work likely started on the temple during the resign of Krishnadevaraya (1509-29) and, despite the fact that it was never finished or consecrated, the temple's incredible sculptural work is the pinnacle of Vijayanagar art. The outer 'musical' pillars reverberate when tapped... There's an ornate stone chariot in the temple courtyard containing an image of Garuda. It's wheels were once capable of turning..."

can you see two animal in one picture - holy cow & elephant

The most excited is we went down to the underground which is complicated dark and we could not see anything. However it has a big stone in the middle, the king will walk around this stone five times when he was praying.

EATING always the main part of my trip. It won't be a good trip without some memorable food, such as I miss the slum food in bombay, seafood in Kochin, beef fried rice in Chennai, big fish in Mamallapuram... Hampi is Mango tree special Thali (a indian mixed rice which you can add unlimited) and Mango Lassi (Indian yogurt drink). This food and drink are my favourite in India. You can find the best in Mango Tree restaurant.

Thali!!!

Swing under the giant mango tree - find the childhood

This trip remind me my childhood in Malaysia. Bicycle, banana tree, rice field... Carmen, Gary and Kirsti were excited about these, however, I was excited because the memory...

Only the time you away from home, then you will realize how good to at home. I miss my family - mum, dad and sis, my friends, and my country which I always familiar with. However, it won't stop me to see around the world. It is because it will be the best way for me to appreciate what I had.

7th India Trip: Mamallapuram, March30 - April1st

>> Wednesday, May 09, 2007

Finally I update my India Trip. I suppose to post this to my blog one month ago due to the Indian NETWORK (IT city wor!)I cannot do it!

After Hyderabad, I went to Mamallapuram with other AIESEC interns and their colleague. Mamallapuram is a beach one hour far from Chennai. It means that I went back to Chennai again but only pass by.

We went there by sleeper train. It was the first time I travel with local train. Sometime is good to travel with local people. You do not have to worry too much. After six hours train (kind of short), we arrive Chennai. It was early in the morning. This place seems very familiar. I found out that I wait at the bus stop opposite the train station for very long time few months back. I still remember we had a very pretty Indian sweet but it does not taste as good as how it looks.

My bed in the train

When we arrive, they told us that the whole Tamil Nadu (the state where Chennai is) was on strike because they have the water supply problem with Karnataka (the state where Bangalore is). Oh gosh! This problem I think I heard before I went back to Malaysia, at that time they have strike in Karnataka and Tamil Nadu. After few months, it happened again! India~~

In the shop of some friends... hungry & tired

Luckily we are with local friends, if not I think we will just die near the street because you could not able to buy food and water until 6p.m. Then we went to some friends shop and stay in their shop to waiting for the car to go to Mamallapuram.

After one hour, we had arrived Mamallapuram. Settle the accommodation and looking for the food. Then we spent few hours to look for a resort which allowed us to use their beach and swimming pool. It was kind of stupid but anyway… Finally we got one.

Carmen & Me

Kirsti & Me

I started my original plan – DOING NOTHING AND RELAX on the beach. I really do not enjoy the heat because I have really enough since Chinese New Year to Hyderabad. I do not really want to be real Indian. So I went to the swimming pool, swim for a while then lied at the bench next to it. Reading my “the world is flat”… and fell asleep…

After lunch, I found a good place to sleep again! There are many sleeping net around the area. I picked up a good one slept again! I did not know why I was so tired. Of course I party very hard for two weeks!

At the evening, some people want to go to sightseeing; some people want to go back (me!) After a long discussion, yifan said:” can’t we just separate into two groups!” Yeah! Then Carmen, Kirsti and me went back to hotel. The reason I want to go back was not because I do not want to sightseeing or I want to create problem. It was because I want to have a shower and I want to do the Ayunvera (kerala style) massage.

We found a good value massage. INR350 (US$8.3) per person. However, I am not very like this kind of massage. It is soft massage. I prefer hard massage, as pain as possible. But this was not. Anyway, we have to try the most famous massage in India. Now, I wish to go to Thailand to enjoy the Abusing Massage :p

The massage took quite long, so we could not able to join the dinner with the others. But I always can find good food! I found a seafood restaurant. Since they are closing soon, they offer us each person IRN200 (US$5) with one supper big snapper, big bowl of rice, best French fries in India, and salad. It was good value and enjoyable!

Huge Fish! Good dinner...

Sleep again!

The next day do some sightseeing and it was my shopping day! Spent the afternoon to do my shopping!

Famous Elephant Craving.. Always see in Lonely Planet.. Finally it was in front of me

Butter ball

At night we went Madu house to have a traditional south Indian dinner – My favorite Thali!

P/s: I broke my camera during this trip.. DAMN IT!!!

Malaysia Election 2007

>> Thursday, May 03, 2007

Ahhh.. I am really slow when typing Chinese but when I nearly finish my blog by typing Chinese, suddenly everything was disappeared. GEK SI !!!

Yesterday evening, French Presidential Election 2007 Learning Circle for AIESEC intern was organized. I could not make it and I have no idea what is that about.

I was pretty an unqualified University student. I don’t like to read newspaper or talking about the politic. For me, there are always the same and boring. However, now I found that although I was not interested, I should know about that.

Hence, yesterday in the afternoon, during the time surfing internet in the office, I found that a pretty good Malaysia online newspaper – TODAY Malaysia. So I decided to read some of them and pick up my latest information about Malaysia. Then I found that I had lost the first vote in my life! Actually there are so many county is doing the election now included the country where I am – India.

However, after reading some of the news, I found out is same thing happen again and again during the election. So … forget it!

But one thing I am really interested is about our Ex-vice PM, Amwar back to the politic field of Malaysia again. I guess no one would forget the huge issue about him. What will happen after that? I am looking forward about the new drama.

The best and the worst

During the time I was doing the research on Chinese market I found those fact...

In Malaysia,
The best company: Petronas
The company has the highest lost: MALAYSIAN AIRLINE

I was not suprise about the lost which made by Malaysian Airline. I believe everyone in Malaysia we know about this. However, I feel pretty impressive about Petronas!

But, Malaysian really have to work harder because within 1000 Asia best company. Only two companies in the first 300.. Of course, Japan companies are the majority in the list.

"Malaysia Boleh" (Malaysia Can).. Can we?
Wawasan 2020 (Malaysian will become a developed country in 2020), I am really wonder can we achieve this goal?

Weekend @ bangalore

As what I said, my Indian life always out of expectation and crazy, even my moving house experience.

Last Saturday, Carmen and me were moving to another new intern house which has a better location (close to everything you need). However, when we move in the house was still under construction (even we dont have a bed) and a lot of miscommunication with the landlord. I guess both of us was stressful under that situation. But since I had decided no way to regret. We slept on the mattress in the first day.

The next day, since I want to make my BANGALORE WEEKEND be a bit interesting. I decided to go for a brunch with Jon. We went to the top floor of a German Institute. There is a German restaurant with GERMAN BRUNCH!!! It was excellent. After having the Indian food for two months, it was such a bonus for my Indian life. The best thing is it is good value, one buffer + 2 REALLY NICE drink = INR350 (USD$8.4).

Annie loo, the coffee is really good

After the brunch, you would never believe that I move my house again after 24 hours. I gave this suprise to quite a lot of people especially Carmen, landlord before and now and myself. But I did a fast and good decision. I really like the place I am staying now. Good room, good kitchen, good toilet & shower, internet access, quite, new, FREEDOM!!!! Unfortunately my camera was broken. Will take some photo and post it later.

In conclusion, it will be a new page of my Indian life.

The 6th India trip - Hyderabad

>> Sunday, April 22, 2007

After came back to India, my first trip was Hyderabad with Gary and Kirsti.

"Hyderabad, City of Pearls, was once the seat of the mighty, Vijayanagar Empire. Today, the west side of Andhra Pradesh's capital is, with Bangalore, the seat of India's mighty software empire; it goes by the name 'Cyberabad' and genrates jobs, wealth and posh lounges with abandon....Hyderabad is an important centre of Islamic culture. It gracefully combines Hindu and Islamic traditionas... "

We went by bus, I had make a mistake which I booked the non A/C bus. For me it does not really matter because I do not like A/C and I had took the worst bus to Kerala before and now I can sleep everywhere with any condition. So this is good enough the most important is cheap!

Earlier in the morning, an amazing moment had happen. I saw the sun rise from the window of the bus. I love sun rise, it means a new day had started. Due to the car accident happened on the highway, we stuck in the middle of the road for half hour. However, I was surprisingly myself can deal with the situation patiently. India experience had changed my perception of all the bad things. Now for me all the bad situation is just part of life and EXPERIENCE! Be Positive :)

Golconda fort and Ramoji Film City are the highlight in this trip. This two places are two totally different places - past and present of India.

view of hyderabad

Golconda had been the capital of independent state of Telangana for nearly 80 years when Sultan Quli Quth Shah abandoned the fort in 1590. The water supply and sound message system (you can hear the clap at the top of the mountain while people clap at the bottom) was amazing.

it is a hindi tample...

Sultan used to have conference here

sunset from fort

Film City is the place I would like to visit when I was in Bombay and Chennai, finally, I went to Hyderabad - Ramoji Film City. When I was in Chennai, it was mentioned the biggest film city in the world, in hyderabad, it also the biggest in the world so I am not sure which is the biggest. Anyway, it is big enough for me!!!

Am I in Bollywood or Hollywood

a fact airplane..

APLDX (AIESEC Asia Pasific Region National Conference) was another mind changing experience......

EATING
We met Hui Ling who is the intern in Hyderabad, was MCP of Malaysia, and the second Malaysian I met in India. She brought us to a decent restaurant. There is train inside the restaurant... the food is awesome and price is reasonable!!

we are here with different reasons..

Another night we had our dinner in one of the intern house. It is always good to meet other intern in other city. It was the first time I met Japanese intern in India..

The trip was not as crazy as travelled with the two Australians. However, it still a lot of memories.
